Mission

Our core mission is to engage in community-informed science and advocacy related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), emerging infections, and sex and gender science with an emphasis on women’s health with the overarching goal of improving the health of our community, locally and globally.

About Us

We are a team of scientists, clinicians, trainees, advocates, and community members dedicated to clinical and translational research, research training, community outreach, and clinical care. Through these activities, we seek to promote health and wellbeing, improve understanding of disease, and generate knowledge to impact policy change. 
We design, implement, and advise of outcomes from cutting-edge clinical and translational research addressing a broad range of HIV, emerging infections, and sex and gender science with an emphasis on women’s health-related issues. We engage our community members in these endeavors, and we are deeply invested in training the next generation of scientists locally and around the globe. 
Under the RHYTHM umbrella, there are several research studies and training programs which contribute to the mission of our team, collectively aiming to improve the health of our local and global communities through research, mentorship, and advocacy. 

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Gaea Daniel Wins 2023 Book of the Year Award

The American Journal of Nursing announced it's 2023 Book of the Year Awards recipients, recognizing authors for their contributions to the advancement of knowledge in an array of categories.  "Taking Action", co-authored by Susan Hassmiller and Gaea Daniel receives first place in the Health Care Administration and Health and Public Policy categories for it's inclusivity and promotion of health equity.

The RHYTHM team is positioned in Atlanta on Emory University's main and Emory at Grady campuses.

Research

We have a number of active NIH-funded clinical research studies, contributing to the increased knowledge and translation of science in the realms of HIV, women's health, sex and gender differences, COVID, and more.

Mentorship

RHYTHM faculty are advocates and dedicated to the educational and experiential development of researchers in the realm of HIV, women's health and sex and gender differences, curating opportunities for exposure and growth into independence.

Collaboration

RHYTHM Investigators work in collaboration with Investigators internal and external to Emory, locally and globally.
