The Emory Hospice & Palliative Medicine offers two distinct tracks housed within a single program:
- Clinical Rotations - Standard Track
- Clinical Rotations - Pediatric Track
At Emory, fellows in both tracks benefit from the strong palliative care clinical programs in both pediatrics and adult medicine. Board certification in hospice and palliative medicine encompasses the care of all patients and is not specific to only adults or only pediatrics. Therefore, all fellows are required to have exposure to patients across the range of ages.
Standard Track
The Standard Track primarily trains fellows in the care of adult patients with a serious illness while also providing exposure to the care of children with serious illness. This is an appropriate track for physicians with prior training in internal medicine, family medicine, and emergency medicine (among others) who envision a career in palliative medicine and/or hospice in which the majority of their patients will be adults.
Pediatric Track
The Pediatric Track primarily trains fellows in the care of children with a serious illness while also providing significant training in the care of adults with serious illness. This is an appropriate track for physicians with prior training in pediatrics and who envision a career-focused in pediatric palliative medicine.
