William J. Casarella, M.D., is a professor of radiology and Executive Associate Dean for clinical affairs at Emory University School of Medicine. He is Executive Director for Continuing Medical Education at Emory University. Dr. Casarella previously served as Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Emory for 24 years. Dr. Casarella received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completed residencies in medicine at Boston City Hospital/Harvard Medical Service in Massachusetts and radiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Dr. Casarella has been tremendously active in the profession, having served on various national and international boards and committees and as a consultant for a long list of hospitals. He has contributed close to 150 publications to the medical literature, mainly in vascular/interventional radiology. Dr. Casarella has also served key roles in many radiology societies, including terms as president of the American Board of Radiology, the Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, the Society of Chairmen of Academic Radiology Departments and the ARRS. He received the Gold Medals from the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) in 2005 and The Society of Interventional Radiology in 2006.
