Welcome to the Emory International Postdoctoral Committee (IPC) Website

We thank Dr. Mary Delong and Lisa Flowers from the Emory Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE) for giving postdocs this opportunity to form our committee and help organize all our activities!

Past Events and Activities

Green Card Workshop, 3-5pm @ SOM 120, Feb 16th, 2012
The latest of the workshop series brought together about 60 postdocs. IPC co-chair Cengiz Gunay presented the postdoc perspective of green card application by providing statistics from several Emory postdocs who previously obtained their green cards.

This was followed by a panel presentation and question/answer session by the attorneys Carolyn Frazier Soloway (csoloway AT fspklaw.com), Sharon Cook Poorak (spoorak AT fspklaw.com), and Theresa Bailey Kennedy (tkennedy AT fspklaw.com). The written feedback from the audience was positive. Several IPC members worked to organize this event.

H1B and J1 Visa Information Session, Feb 8th, 2012
Terry Eiesland, Associate Director of the Emory International Student and Scholar Services, gave a detailed comparison of these two most favorite work visas for postdocs. He was very informative and also touched upon several new regulations and answered questions from the audience of 20-30 postdocs. IPC co-chair Patricia Lucioni and member Sylvia Yip helped organize this event.
Ice Cream Social, noon-1pm @ SOM 153A, Sep 20th, 2011
All postdoc committees setup tables to advertise themselves and connect with postdocs in this event. Each postdoc committee provided different ice cream toppings for postdocs to top their ice creams served by Lisa Flowers.
Green Card Workshop, 10-11:30am @ SOM 120, Apr 19, 2011
The International Postdocs Commitee (IPC) and the Office of Postdoctoral Education (OPE) are organizing a "Green Card Workshop". The aim of this workshop is to inform international scholars (e.g., postdocs) their options for obtaining a U.S. permanent residency (green card). There will be a presentation by an immigration lawyer, followed by the account of a postdoc from her own experience in obtaining a green card. The workshop will finish with a Q&A session. Please let the IPC or the OPE know if you have feedback regarding the shaping this workshop. Thanks!
Cultural Potluck, 3-5pm @ SOM 110, Oct 28, 2010
Lara Pereira from IPC is collaborating with the Postdoc Social Committee to bring you this event. See the Social Committee web page for details.
Fall Hiking Event, at Sweetwater Creek Park on Oct 2nd, 2010
IPC member Manish Chandra Pathak took us to the Sweetwater part for a 2.5 hour hike. The trail was beautiful with the Sweetwater Creek running along it. We were eight of us and took a lot of pictures. Afterwards, we stopped at a nearby restaurant to get a late lunch. Even though we met at 9:30am, it was almost a whole day event with delays and transportation. We all enjoyed it very much. Click here for more pictures.
Green Card Information Session, Dec 10, 2009
Our committee member Lara Pereira and Immigration Lawyer Karen Weinstock gave informational presentations on applying for permanent residency. You can also see the original flyer.
