Resident Rotations

Residents have the opportunity to rotate on the Adult Reconstruction Service treating complicated and uncomplicated problems of the hip and knee.

The resident on the Foot and Ankle service will gain an in-depth exposure to the wide variety of Orthopaedic pathology related to the foot and ankle.

The Grady Memorial Hospital rotation is an integral part of the resident's experience at Emory. The Emory Orthopaedics Department has a long-standing history with Grady and the hospital has been the Atlanta metro area's main trauma hospital for over a century.

The Upper Extremity Service provides the resident with an in-depth exposure to the wide variety of the musculoskeletal pathology encountered in the upper extremity. The resident is involved in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of conditions ranging from the fingertip to the shoulder.

The primary goal of the Musculoskeletal Oncology rotation is to expose the resident to the broad scope of pathology related to musculoskeletal tumors. This includes outpatient work-up and diagnosis, as well as surgical management of primary and metastatic neoplasia to the bone and soft tissues of the extremities.

On the Spine Service PGY 2 and PGY 4 residents work with a diverse group of expert faculty to learn the diagnosis and treatment of complex cervical and lumbar pathology. Rotating with multiple attendings allows the residents to learn different techniques to address common spinal pathology, including cervical radiculopathy and myelopathy, lumbar stenosis, and disk herniation.

The Sports Medicine rotation provides the resident with an in-depth exposure to the wide array of musculoskeletal pathology encountered by the sports medicine surgeon. This resident is intimately involved in the clinical work-up and both operative and non-operative treatment of pathology related to the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle in the athlete.

Residents have the opportunity to rotate at the Atlanta VA Medical Center during their PGY 4 and 5 years. This experience allows residents to develop their skills as a general orthopaedic surgeon with graduated autonomy.
