Our team is experienced in diagnosing and caring for children and adults with all kinds of
genetic skeletal disorders—conditions that affect the body’s bones and joints, such as those in
our arms, legs, and back.
The effects of genetic skeletal disorders on bones and joints can vary greatly. There are
hundreds of different types of genetic skeletal disorders affecting different bones and joints in
different ways. Some disorders are more severe than others.
Examples include:
- All forms of dwarfism not related to hormonal causes
- Limb deficiencies or defects (absent or small bones)
- Musculoskeletal diseases
- Non-rheumatologic cartilage diseases
- Disorders with decreased bone-like osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) and hypophosphatasia
- Osteopetrosis (dense bones)
- Skeletal dysplasias with limb abnormalities
The clinic offers a diagnosis of skeletal disorders and a wide range of treatment options.
Depending on your or your child’s condition and needs, the treatment plan may include surgery,
rehabilitation, prosthetics or orthotics, or other services. Referrals to the other specialists can be
made for various aspects of your care. We also have a genetic counselor to help you and your
child deal with the changes and challenges related to a skeletal disorder.
