eResearch at Emory: eIRB

eIRB is a component of the eResearch at Emory initiative.

eResearch at Emory is a Web-based system for submission, workflow, approval and management of research information. The system will assist the University in standardizing the method in which human research studies are submitted, processed and reviewed. The system is a tool to facilitate compliance with relevant government regulations and to bring transparency to the research application review process.

o       The IRB office will not be able to accept paper submissions for New Studies after July 3rd, 2006. Only eIRB submissions of new studies will be accepted as of July 5th, 2006.

o       All current studies that are in the IRB office as paper studies will continue to be processed as paper studies at this time.

o       While the PI, Co-I or Coordinator may create and edit an eIRB submission, on the PI can complete the initial submission activity to forward the item for review

o       Consents, Assents, HIPAA documents or any other document that the IRB currently stamps for approval must be uploaded in eIRB using the Consent Stamping Template.

 

 

 

 

1.         Q.         How do I get an account to use eIRB?

A.         Approximately 4000 accounts will be preloaded into the application.  Your user name will be the same as your Emory network ID and Emory email user ID.  However, your eIRB password will be different. 

 

The first time you log in, the password will be based on the following schema: first initial first name, last 4 digits of your social numbers, first initial last name.

 

For example: Jane Smith, Social Security Number: 111-222-3333, will have a password of j3333s.

 

Immediately following your initial login, you will be prompted to change your password to one with at least 6 numbers and characters. 

 

If you are unable to access eIRB based on the above schema, you will need to request an eIRB account.   Go to http://www.emory.edu/IRB/eIRB/eIRB_Account.php for more information on requesting an eIRB account.

 

2.         Q.         Whom do I call for help?

A.         There are two types of support available for eResearch.  Technical support and IRB process support.  Technical support will be available during and after business hours.  Examples of technical support issues would include system generated errors when using the website, a lost or forgotten password, or password failure.  IRB process issues would include instructions regarding how to answers particular questions on a smart form or what form to upload into eResearch.  In either case your help desk, 8-HELP for Healthcare users or 7-7777 for university users, will be able to assist you.

 

3.         Q.         Am I required to use eIRB to submit protocols?

A.         During the month of June, you will have the option to submit protocols electronically via eIRB or by hardcopy to the IRB office.  Beginning July 5, 2006, all new studies must be submitted through eIRB and paper copies will no longer be accepted. 

 

4.         Q.         Will training be available?

A.         Yes.  There will be several different options available for you to learn how to use eIRB.

5.         Q.         What web browsers can I use?

            A.         At this time, only Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x is supported.
