Development Services

ITS performs a wide range of development services, including web, database, and custom applications. The development branch of the office directly manages enterprise-wide projects such as the interactive Faculty Database, the Admissions & Course Registration system, and distributed billing systems for several School operations. In addition, the ITS office offers consultation for department and program level development, and can coordinate cooperative arrangements among entities resulting in lower overall project costs to all participants. ITS also provides project management services for these cooperative agreements.

The School of Medicine Web Development Group (WDG) is overseen by the ITS Manager for Internet Technology & Development and meets regularly to discuss and implement policies and design standards for consistency and streamlining of all of the various subsets of the School of Medicine web presence. This group also provides support and resources to beginning developers and department personnel interested in web development in general but having no particular project underway. ITS will also facilitate with the implementation of WDG standards for existing websites, as well as integration of existing enterprise web systems into departmental sites.

Web development services are available by contract with ITS.

Application Development

Application development in the ITS office is highly specialized. Wherever possible, ITS encourages the use of existing University resources and integration of autonomous data systems. However, in some cases it is necessary to design a custom application to meet a specific need not addressed by existing systems. In such cases, ITS will evaluate the project and either attempt to integrate it with other initiatives, develop the application ad hoc, or provide guidance in attaining third party resources to complete the project.
