Had great mentors at Emory during medical school that turned me onto IC.

What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?

Variety is probably the best thing and from time to time you really do get to alter the trajectory of people’s lives in a dramatic way.

Least is probably the complexities with concepts like appropriate use, national registries and public reporting. The risk aversion becomes real.

In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?

Time of training

Desire to work with complex patients

Stress – procedure and call can be tough
