Ms. Schroeder is Executive Associate Dean for Fiscal Affairs and Chief Financial Officer of the Emory University School of Medicine. She was named to this position in October 2001 and reports to the Dean, advising him on all fiscal matters. Through the Office of Business and Finance she directs the School’s finance and budgeting functions and research administration. Her office serves as a liaison between University fiscal functions and the School’s administrators for the 45 basic science departments, clinical science departments, centers and administrative units.
In 1995, Ms. Schroeder joined Emory University’s System of Health Care as Director of Strategic Planning. In this capacity she served the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs providing strategic financial planning services and decision support to the Woodruff Health Sciences Center, which is comprised of the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, and all operating units of Emory Healthcare. Prior to joining Emory, she was a Senior Manager with KPMG’s National Health and Life Sciences Practice.
Ms. Schroeder received her Masters of Science Degree in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health with concurrent coursework at the Harvard Business School and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Her undergraduate degree is from Brown University.
Office of Business and Finance
The Office of Business and Finance supports the core purpose and vision of the School of Medicine by providing stewardship and fiscal oversight for all departments, centers, and administrative units within the School.
The Research Staff of the Office of Business and Finance is located in suite 331 of the School of Medicine Building. The primary responsibility of the research staff is to provide oversight of regulatory and compliance issues which affect the School of Medicine and the University. This includes all pre-award review verification, space award classification and usage review of all proposals and solicitations to external funding organizations. Additionally, in conjunction with the University’s Office of Research Administration, the research staff provides post-award support including the effort certification process and CAS exceptions, and also maintains the School of Medicine’s space and grant database.
The Fiscal Staff of the Office of Business and Finance is located in suite 445 of the School of Medicine Building. The fiscal staff provides financial oversight to all aspects of the School of Medicine, to ensure that the School has the resources to fulfill its mission and vision. In this regard, the fiscal staff manages the budget planning process; supports the operations of the departments, administrative units and centers through creation of standardized processes, training programs and advocacy; prepares reports for internal and external constituencies; and plans and completes special projects related to the operations of the School of Medicine.
