This five day seminar is open to all professionals of the health care team, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and others with present or planned involvement in the management and education of individuals with diabetes mellitus. Multi-discipline health care teams interested in organizing or improving a diabetes program are especially encouraged to attend.Professionals preparing to take the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) examination will find the course facilitates their study. The course is taught by physicians, nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, and other members of the health care team in the Diabetes Unit of The Grady Health System. Time is allocated for observation in the clinical setting with various
members of the health care team.
• Understand the management goals and strategies for each type of diabetes. • Understand the classification and pathogenesis of the types of diabetes. • Know the acute and chronic complications, and their management and prevention. • Identify nutritional goals and strategies. • Identify teaching/learning methods that will enhance patient education. • Explain the rationale for utilizing the multidisciplinary team approach. • Be cognizant of future treatment and prevention procedures.

The Emory University School of Medicine designates this continuing medical
education activity for 31 credit hours in Category 1 of the physician’s
Recognition Award of the American Medical Association.
$100.00 for non-physicians $150.00 for physicians. A $500.00 tuition fee is required for non-Georgia residents. All fees
must accompany the completed application. Checks should be made payable
to Emory University. Enrollment will be limited to 14 applicants. Cancellation
will be honored if notification is received 14 days before the scheduled
course.
